Why not have the recall done? it's free, and the bikes don't have a reputation for failing for 99.9% of people out there.. If the bike isn't in two pieces, let the dealer have a look at it and fix it. It will only take a few days.

NOT! If you don't have to take it to the dealer? Don't! Obviously, dealers SUCK. Do not let the recall scare you. Any asshole that recommends to take it to the dealer is a retard. If you're not some Wheelie idiot, don't worry about it. If you are? don't worry about it! You have bigger problems.

Petros, keep in mind that no manufacturer can guarantee 110% on any bike they produce that there will not be a problem. That being said, the chances of something actually happening are very slim to none!!

From the research I have done, Suzuki identified a "possible" issue with a fraction of 1% of the robotic welds. They stated that, if a front end collision occurs or if the bike is subjected to hard impact landings from wheelies the welds "may" crack or break. Furthermore, they identified that the only bikes affected are 2005-2006 GSXR 1000's matching serial number range JS1GT76A* 62100003 through to JS1GT76A* 62117296 only. If your VIN does not fall within that range you're not affected!! If it does fall within that range Suzuki has stated they will pay your local dealer to inspect the frame to see if it is cracking. If it is, they will replace it at their cost. If it is not, you are OK but as an extra measure they will add a structural brace to reinforce the area.

Unfortunately, here is where you need to decide what you want to do. Personally, I had mine inspected and a brace was added. Regardless of what other people's opinions may be of the dealers, you need to ultimately decide what will and won't make you feel safe.

There are plenty of other things that can go wrong on any bike during a ride you should be more concerned with. If you don't check and maintain your tire pressure regularly you can have a catastrophic failure leading to severe injury or death. Rest assured, Suzuki would not risk a multi-million dollar lawsuit and the damage that would result to their reputation by risking someone's life while using their product or by implementing a shoddy repair....hope this helps!! :cheers

you are right but:
as i stated i am the 3rd or 4th owner of the bike so i do not know how the previus owners used the bike.
it is not the same for the frame to fail with a mechanic failing.
the bike was not imported from the official dealer so now he is trying to make my life difficult. at first he refused to bring me the brace and i told him to bring it and i will pay and i will put it my self.if this happens what if after all i find a crack and i need a new frame? i will try to convince him to do it and i will say to him that i will pay regardless if Suzuki makes that for free. here that i live you can not find your right. they even refuse to sell you parts if the bike was not imported from them
my question again:
did any of you hear or see a frame fail after the brace was installed ?

Then I guess my answer back would be if you read the last part of my reply I said "Suzuki would not risk a multi-million dollar lawsuit and the damage that would result to their reputation by implementing a shoddy repair!! :hammer

I am not the original owner of my k5 and i don't have the brace installed
what was the vin range of the damaged ones? and is it too late for me to get mine done at the dealer at no cost?

In other words.......every frame for every K5/K6 GSXR-1000 is affected. They only made 1 kind of frame for that bike.

Don't quote me but I think it was more of an issue with the program that runs the robotic equipment and the welds as apposed to the frame itself.

It's not too late to get yours done for free at the dealer. It's been a few years now. Has anyone heard of the frames breaking after the brace was installed? Does anyone have pictures of the brace that the dealer puts on?

Already asked and answered in this thread. Someone would have been bitching here if a braced frame broke.

Does anyone have pictures of the brace that the dealer puts on?

Here.

Pepper - you only listed 2006 vintage sn's. The recall notice I received shows:
(2005)GSX-R1000K5: JS1GT76A*52100019 through 52110197.
(2006)GSX-R1000K6: JS1GT76A*62100003 through 62117296.
So probably all K5 & K6 GSXR1000's.
And I have checked both of mine, 1 has been raced (raced, not stunted) since new, and no cracks seen in either so no mod; the brace mod only looks like it might dampen some resonance vibrations, if that is the problem, but appears too flimsy in construction and mounting to help strength-wise (I am a mechanical engineer but admittedly not a frame specialist). Also impedes cooling airflow and engine/rad access. I don't know anyone that did it.

Suzuki indicates that around 57% of affected bikes have not had the brace. They sent out four recall notices to 97% of all owners and have stopped trying. In the meantime a class action suit has been settled and owners are bound by its terms unless they specifically opted out.

I wouldn't stress over it. I never had my old K6 done and I came down pretty hard a number of times when doing stand-ups along the highway and my frame never had a problem. I personally can't see how a brace glued to the frame is going to stop it cracking. It's just Suzuki covering there ass.
